About Me

18

years experience

Edinburgh garden designer Lisa Lempsink creates beautifully crafted and tailored garden designs from her landscaping studio in Edinburgh.

My aim is to provide my clients with beautiful, aspirational yet functional, affordable gardens. Success in doing so is based upon my passion for creating planting and design schemes for a whole range of garden styles and outdoor spaces.

My horticultural knowledge and expertise is built on my solid background of creating garden designs for more than 18 years. My design studio is based in central Edinburgh which means I’m easily accessible to clients across the Lothians, Fife, Scottish Borders, Forth Valley, the central belt of Scotland and beyond if required.

However large or small, we’ll work with you to create the perfectly tailored, landscaped garden providing a design that is right for you. Designed with sustainability in mind, our gardens are wildlife friendly, providing rich habitats for pollinating insects and wildlife.

 A word from Lisa

Owner of Edinburgh based garden design, Lempsink Garden Design

Spending much of my adult life in garden and planting design has been an absolute joy for me. After completing a business degree and spending 18 years in industry, retraining as a Garden Designer from the Scottish Agricultural College in Edinburgh in 2008, has given me, without doubt, the greatest professional joy and fulfilment.

My passion for planting, the environment and great design has allowed me to transform numerous gardens from unused and often bleak landscapes into places where my clients can thrive with their family and friends. With a firm focus on sustainability and biodiversity, the planet is a winner too.

SUSTAINABILITY IS
OUR ONLY FUTURE

Sustainable gardening is not a new concept but has become a hot topic in the horticultural world due to the challenges we are facing in terms of climate change and the need to make a difference to the environment as quickly as possible. At Lempsink Garden design sustainability is at the heart of everything we do.

DIVERSE
PLANTING

Letting us show you how to choose diverse planting practices means:

– Vibrant and appealing displays

– Healthier garden ecosystems

– Diverse, bio-useful flora

– Low maintenance and hardy

– Drought resistance, conserving water

ORGANIC
PRACTICE

Soil is the basis of every successful garden so it’s important to:

– Be as nutrient rich as possible

– Have those nutrients come from organic fertilisers

– Give the soil structure

– Help retain water in the soil

– Reduce waste and help recycling

Client Testimonial

"We wanted a major re-design of our back garden, subdivided into two projects, and chose Lisa to carry out the design in both cases. From the outset, Lisa showed great enthusiasm and was very much focussed on listening to and ensuring her understanding of our requirements, both at a conceptual and more detailed level so that we could readily agree a way forward. She then employed her extensive experience and technical knowledge, combined with her understanding of the characteristics of the garden from her initial site visits, to create a design on paper which was then discussed in full before being signed off. We felt that the designs and proposals were very much tailored to what we were seeking. Lisa was also able to recommend companies with the appropriate skills to undertake the hard landscaping involved. We were very confident in her ability to oversee this work and intercede on our behalf, if appropriate, to ensure that matters proceeded smoothly and in line with our expectations. Lisa also created a planting plan after discussions on colours and types of plant, and finally, arranged the buying, delivery and planting of the plants. In conclusion, we have been very pleased with the re-design of our garden and are now at the stage of enjoying watching the plants establishing themselves. We have no hesitation in recommending Lisa to anyone wishing to carry out a re-design of their own garden’"

Re- & Up-cycling

We will always re-use or re-cycle as much as possible in your garden. Re-cycling and up-cycling are not only kind to the planet but kind to your pocket too.

Bee-helpful.

Many plants wouldn’t be able to fertilise without bees and pollinators. The bee and the flower help each other to reproduce and succeed and it’s not just important that we support this by what we plant in our gardens, but vital. Bees are some of the world’s most marvellous creatures and by sticking their heads into petals to find nectar and pollen and by then spreading it, helps the worlds food crops that depend on that. The rich bird, bee and butterfly friendly planting we use in our planting designs, supports them and this type of planting is standard in all our gardens.

A wide range of plants combined with water features and safe shelter will attract a wide variety of creatures. From log piles to bug hotels, we can include everything you need to attract these visitors to your garden.

What it means to me...

“Garden practices that do not harm the planet and also bring the greatest joy is my ultimate goal.”

Client Testimonial

"Lisa has just finished designing, building and planting our very neglected and shambolic back garden. She very quickly made an initial appointment with us, gathered our thoughts on what we were looking for and came back with a brilliant design. The building contractors she works with were great - they carried out the work sooner and quicker than expected. When Lisa came back with a planting plan, she was very patient with our various demands around colour schemes, types of plants, heights of plants, plants that are non-toxic to cats... and answered all our questions and offered advice for how to care for our new garden. I would highly recommend Lisa - she carried out the work with great care and patience and with minimal disruption to us (which was very important as we work from home!) She took care of everything - from consultation to design, to liaising with workers, to sorting out plant delivery, a true full service! I would highly recommend Lisa Lempsink Garden Design!"

Client Testimonial

"Lisa is a true professional in every aspect of her business. She established our brief very quickly as we were fairly specific in our thoughts. That being said Lisa helped us to consider various options and gave sound advice re plant choices and colours. She worked with us throughout the project and recommended an excellent landscape contractor. We would have no hesitation in using Lisa’s services again."
